There's even a really poor video of a man with a bear on his leg. (making nearly $400 atm) c'mon ffs
- its not even a photograph.
- its very poor quality.
- I don't believe it is the posters own work.
It seems there are quite a few images on steemit with very little quality, creativity and ability.
Some putting very little effort in and people helping them get paid.
Some people cant be bothered to straighten their horizon line. and i dont just mean a liitle bit off, ive seen pics where the horizon line is nearly a diagonal. or the sky is bleached out or its vastly over/under exposed.
People are using the tag photography just because its got a pic in. well just about every post
has got a pic on steemit, surely the photography tag should be used for good photography?
not just any old holiday snap.
As a fully trained advertising photographer i find it a tad annoying that some peeps can make a fortune from posting a bad image while i make a mediocre amount of my work that i spent many many hours on.
I love photography as an artform and i hate to see it abused.
Then there's the problem with blatant plagiarism and copyright theft. we all no it goes on but do you have to upvote it?
surely all this this is giving steemit a bad name and diluting the quality of some really outstanding work on here.
There are plenty of good photographers on here, enough for us to decide what we want the category photography to be. Please start being a bit more active.
we all like to post and get some revenue bt we also have a job to do in the form of curating and vetting. if we don't do that, we all lose out in the long run.
I don't know about you but i'm here for the duration not just the quick buck.
No argument from me.
However, I think that it will just take a little while longer before the "token" upvotes for marginal works will decline.
There's a saying, "I don't know art, but I know what I like." I think there are a number of users here that don't look for the most technically proficient and tasteful photos to upvote. People are used to instagram filters and oversaturated and oversharpened fluffy photos that pass for great pictures on various "photo" sites. They aren't really qualified to determine what should be in the Society of Illustrators, but they do know how to click a button. So there you have it.
We'll get there my friend. Just not yet. So until then, keep plugging away. Just be sure to get your slice of the pie before a lot of the other amateur, semi-pro and pro photographers get whiff of this place. The competition will get fierce trying to snag 50 dollars! : wink :

I take photos as a hobby, made one post so far in photography. I am no professional but i enjoy it, the Norwegian nature is beautiful.
I scouted the Photography tag yesterday and also came across the bear hugging the mans leg. I flagged it...it's not original content, i have seen it on imgur many times.

I think it is a problem of tag abuse more than anything. People just label anything with an image in it as photography even a video lol.

You have a point. Maybe a good option would be to add a second level to this category, and to some others as well, where only those who have reached a certain level of positive reputation can post...
