Primates are thinkers too

Today we took the kids to visit the Mangaung Zoo in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

We spotted this guy who was seemingly unphased about the visitors outside the confines of his cage. It was quite sad to see him look out into the distance, almost with longing in his eyes.

Ethics

Do you think that its ethical to keep animals in confinement? I don't believe that these animals are well developed, healthy and happy animals.

Meet Charlie

Charlie is a chimpanzee who live alone. He is confined to one small outdoor play area and one indoor room.

He did not look happy at all, and it was actually quite sad to see these animals live in confinement.

Charlie briefly peeked outside but soon retreated to his room.

What do you think about zoos?

It is sad to think that after all the visitors went home, these animals are still stuck in their cages - for life.

I do not think confinement, especially in very little spaces is good for these primates. Animal rights groups and others will certainly not like the arrangement at this zoo. Thanks for sharing these pictures and stories @pietervw
