A day with the butterflies

In as early as 5:00am, everybody was already awake, the kids were very excited knowing that we’re to visit the Butterfly Sanctuary in Bilar, Bohol as our first stop on that day. The weather outside was still very cold, so the adults took coffee to alleviate the shivering and had a little chitchat, but the kids, out of excitement immediately proceeded to the bathroom to take a bath after finishing their milk, unbothered with the chilling temperature that morning. Everybody got so busy preparing all the stuff we need for the tour, of course the camera should not be left behind to capture the memories.

At 6:10am everything was set but the very hospitable aunt and cousins of my wife who housed us for the rest of our stay in Bohol did not allow us to go without taking breakfast first, so we congregated in a long dining table with a sumptuous breakfast prepared before us. We were all so full after and definitely good to go for an awesome adventure.

The chartered van arrived a quarter before 7:00am as agreed. The kids rushed inside the van while we settled our luggage at the back of it. Head count! Everybody was in the van settled and with so much excitement in the eyes. We bid goodbye to my wife’s aunt and cousins for a day of adventure as the driver started the vehicle’s engine.

As we head to our first stop that day, the Butterfly Sanctuary, we passed by so many beautiful sceneries, our eyes were so delighted with the awesome natural landscapes and breathtaking blue sea water. There were no dull moments during our travel going to our first stop despite us just inside the van, by just merely looking at those beautiful views we passed by with the chips, peanuts and crackers. The time just went so fast, and there we already reached The Butterfly Sanctuary.

After the van was parked, the kids immediately went out and yelled Butterfly! Butterfly! Butterfly! They really can’t contain their excitement.

In the entrance of the sanctuary a small but cozy and beautiful restaurant will welcome you with their very accommodating crews. After paying the entrance of 30 pesos per head the supervisor introduced us to a tour guide. The tour guide introduced herself and asked us if what dialect do we prefer (Tagalog or Visayan) or is there anyone in the group could not understand a Filipino language and prefer English. Since we’re all Bisaya we informed her that she could speak Visayan.

As the tour started we discovered that the tour guide had a terrific sense of humor, she usually injected humor every time she explains something to us which made the information easily understood and remembered. We learned so many things about butterflies during our tour. Information that we missed (I personally LOL) during our biology class in high school and refreshed us the information we already forgot like the metamorphosis.

It was during our tour that I learned the physical differences between a male and female butterflies, Sexually Dimorphic Butterflies, their life span and so on and so forth. The tour was very educational especially for kids.

The butterflies were the main attraction of the Sanctuary but you cannot ignore the view. The greens, the landscape and our favorite Gazebo. Those were all great milieu for an awesome capture for a great memory.

It was just our first stop and we still had a lot in the list but the bounty of nature of Bohol had already enchanted our eyes and won our hearts.

I was there last weekend with my cousin and her colleagues. I didn’t go inside the sanctuary though. 😊
