HUSKYADVENTURES - Life with Huskies
Today I'll share my experience of the behind the scenes.
I will show you, what kind of equipments do you need and how much do they cost. I'll also talk about the training sessions and the cost of it.
In case you missed the first two part of my Huskyadventures blog, you can check them below..
The beginning #huskyadventures - PART1
In the first part you can read a bit more about me and my dogs.
An average day #huskyadventures - PART2
In the second part you can read about an average day with them.
How much excercise do they need? How long does it take? etc.
Let's start with the equipments.
You will need some special equipments on top of the basic ones, that every dog requires.
- Shedding, grooming tool.
- Collar VS. Harness for everyday use.
- Sport equipments.
Shedding, grooming tools.
Huskies are double coated dogs, unless you have need it for medical purpose you can't cut it's coat. You will need to either blow it out or use grooming tool and groom it, until the shedding is done.
As grooming equipment you can't use deShedding tools, because that totally destroyes the undercoat. You will need a 'rake' and a slicker brush. You need to use the slicker first and then the rake will remove the fur.
These tools usually cost $10-15 each.
What about the blowout method? How does it work?
(That's a Malamute, not a Husky but their coating is the same.)
Collar VS. Harness for every day use?
For everyday use and for walk a collar is more practical.
Harnesses are made for work. In everyday walk it could make more damage to your training progress than help. Since the harnesses are comfortable for the dog even when they are pulling it won't stop them for pulling the leash during the walk. If you have small sized dog, it might not be a problem for you, but good luck pulling back a husky.
Cost of collar for everyday use:
It really depends on what kind of collars do you use, but basic ones starts around $10.
The ones i use
- (2x) $30 - regular collars with fancy design
- (2x) $35 - textil half-choke collar
- $14 - chain half-choke collar ; bought it, used only once but I don't like it.
- (2x)$10 - halti - stop-pull trainer, head harness.
Sport equipments.
You can do most of the dog sports with Huskies, however the sledding sports are most populars.
Sledding equipments.
- X-Back harness
- Lead line
- Flexible shock absorber line
- Carabiners
- Dog boots/paw wax
- Vehicle
Estimated cost of equipments (excluding vehicle): $80-100 for one dog and around $50-65 more for each dog.
Sledding sports.
There are few type of sledding sports you can do with your dog.
Canicross.
Cross country running with one or two dog.
Bike/Scooter-Jöring
One or two dogs.
Cart pulling.
Minimum two dogs.
Mushing.
Let's see how Huskies compete in agility.
(There are some Huskies with good results in agility, this video is just for fun.😂)
I missed few days, but I'm back to posting. This is it for the third part. I wanted to talk about training, but I feel like it's already long enough. You can read about training in the next part.
Thank you so much for reading. If you enjoyed reading please check out my other articles.

Congratulations! for good artical. Dog Harnesses are made for work. In everyday walk it could make more damage to your training progress than help.
