It's surprising what you find when you take time to look

in photography •  7 years ago

I spent a few hours hiking down an old trail, alongside a quiet lake in the woods. We saw beautiful wildflowers that could hold their own against even the most stunning garden specimens.

In fact, everywhere we looked, there was beauty. Each direction faced brought a new masterpiece that could take a person's breathe away: the glass-like surface of the lake, the silhouette of the trees against the setting sun, the juxtaposition of fallen branches against a sea of green.

Stepping back and looking at the big picture can certainly be rewarding, but taking the time to focus in on the details makes the journey far more interesting. A squirrel in a tree. The moon peaking through the branches. A footprint in the mud.

What do you see in these photos?

I see that you can see and appreciate that you can see and find worthy bits and pieces to record on this blockchain.

Reminds me of hiking with my family in younger years when they raced ahead to win but I lingered behind and appreciated the beauty by the wayside.

Nature is astonishing, it is so complex, yet so familiar. Nature is art. An artform that can not be described with words, but felt. Felt with every sense in your body. Too many people don't take a break from everything to stop and focus on what's around them. They're all stuck in their heads, creating a delusion of what reality actually is. People see their theories, speculations, thoughts and ideas as a part of reality, but it's all a construct in your head. Why do all the humans of the world think they are so different from that of a tree sitting in their lawn? Observe and you will illuminate the vast beauty of the universe.

Some great compositions going on there @redhens - what camera did you use?? - it's always handy to include that if you #photography tag anything - just a tip. Check on any of my photo pics to see what I mean. Steem on Mother Nature! :)

Good advice. These were all taken with an iPhone 5 -- nothing fancy. I have a nicer camera, but usually use my phone since it's easier to carry around and catch things in the moment.

Yeah, the folks in the #photography tag love to know what kind of tools your using. I use the: iPhone 5S, Samsung S8, Canon IXUS 220 and 230 and the Olympus Mju Mini for Steemit blogging. Here is an example of my pic from this morning ... check below the pic ... Enjoy your break :)
