My entry to @czechglobalhosts photo contest - South American Saturday

in photography •  7 years ago

Today I came across @czechglobalhosts' 7 World's Continents Photo Contest and realized that it was South American Saturday.

I lived in southern Chile for 3 years and remembered that I had some photos stored away for a rainy day, so I made sure to submit an entry in the comment of their post.

 La erupcion del Volcán Calbuco

This Photo was taken with an old and rather crappy cell phone, but thanks to the magic of photoshop, I was able to make it a bit more pleasant to the eyes - It's not perfect, but it's better.

Puerto Varas, Chile

In 2015 My family and I were living in region X of Chile. This particular house had a perfect view of of two beautiful volcanoes; Volcán Osorno on the left and Volcán Calbuco on the right. On the afternoon of April 22, Volcán Calbuco erupted without any prior indication of being active, and my tiny family and I were able to witness first hand - A once in a life time opportunity! It was quite possibly one of the most incredible things that I have witnessed.

It is beautiful and captured it but it is scary for the people who live near that volcano.

Oh, it was definitely scary! Fortunately no one died.

Incredible picture!

Thanks, @life's-a-donut!

Very cool, I visited Peru for a week years ago, never a volcano though!

Never been to Peru, I've heard a lot of interesting things about it, though.

What a photo...

It has to be scary been there...

It was a bit scary, yes!

That's an awesome photo!!! It was an amazing also scary experience, lol!

I saw that contest a few days ago, but I totally forgot about it. I need to do it!

Do it! You don't have long left, the judges are in a different time zone.

Wow what a beautiful picture well taken love the contrasting colours

Thanks, @rogerblu!

perfect photo !

Daaaamnnnn. That's an incredible moment. That explosion must have affected the weather.....?

It truly was! The streaks you are seeing is actually the heavy ash falling, it was crazy. Parts of Ensenada, Chile ended up with close to 3 feet of ash!
Later in the day, the ash started creating lightening from static electricity.

That's crazy. The only volcanos i've ever been near are Vesuvius and Haleakela...and they're 'mostly' dormant. Great shot.

This one was supposed to be dormant-ish, also. haha
Thanks, bud!

That's a great shot! But I will be a little bit afraid to be there. You are courageous. Keep posting, I like what you do.

Thanks so much, @mllolivia! :D

This is a very COOL picture!
Just WOW!
I love the blue behind the smoke and the way the smoke/clouds shoot up like mushrooms.

Best wishes
Snekky

Thanks, @poeticsnake! It was definitely a super wow moment!

That is a truly awesome image. Not sure that I could have taken a picture like that at the same time as running in the opposite direction, fast.

Haha We were speechless! Shortly after this photo, I was filling every empty container I could find with water...just in case.
