Iceland: Skógafoss waterfalls

Uno dei luoghi più magici che ho visitato nel mio recente viaggio in Islanda sono le cascate di Skógafoss.
La bellezza di una di una delle cascate più famose di Islanda, è data non solo dalla sua potenza e dal suo salto di ben 62 mt, non solo dai suoi arcobaleni, ma anche dalla leggenda che le attribuisce un potere magico: si dice che chiunque venga bagnato dalle sue acque possa ritrovare un oggetto perso e cercato a lungo. La la leggenda racconta che Thrasi, un navigatore vichingo che giunto sulle coste islandesi, nascose il suo bottino in una grotta proprio dietro la cascata di Skógafoss. Del tesoro non si seppe più nulla per lungo tempo, finchè non venne portato alla luce un anello in argento con incisioni runiche che sembra essere la chiave del forziere.
Nessuno, però, ha ancora avuto il coraggio di sfidare la potenza della cascata per cercare ciò che vi è nascosto e l’anello rimane custodito nel museo del vicino abitato di Skógar, dove è anche possibile osservare un antico totem di Odino.

One of the most magical places I visited on my recent trip to Iceland is the Skógafoss waterfalls.
The beauty of one of Iceland's most famous waterfalls is given not only by its power and its 62-meter jump, not only by its rainbows, but also by the legend that gives it a magical power: it is said that anyone being washed by its waters may find a lost object that has been searched for a long time. Legend has it that Thrasi, a Viking navigator who arrived on the Icelandic coast, hid his booty in a cave just behind the Skógafoss waterfall. Nothing more was known about the treasure for a long time, until a silver ring with runic incisions that seemed to be the key to the treasure chest was unearthed.
No one, however, has yet had the courage to challenge the power of the waterfall to look for what is hidden there and the ring remains in the museum of the nearby village of Skógar, where it is also possible to observe an Odino ancient totem.
