While in search of the endless stairs,

we came across this stone house. It's labeled 'Maintenance', but there is a big hole in the old thatched roof, making that area of the building useless for storage. There is still plenty building left, I suppose, but it is covered in inches of moss. It looks old and creepy. Who knows how old it is or what is was originally used for. What I do know is, before the property was purchased by the city of Portland, it was the site of an old prison.

The prison was meant to be self-sustainable,

but failed to become long-standing. If you ever get the chance, I urge you to visit the very large Washington Park in Portland, OR. This particular part of the park, in which the stone house resides, is near the Holocaust Memorial, towards the bottom of the hill. Following this set will be photos of the old stone steps, which lead down to Burnside Avenue.
