Back to the Future with a Delorean & Porsche Rat Rod

My impressions of the Southern Germany's largest Vintage Car Rally continues. As you walk around the 3000 plus oldtimers parked on a large field with views of the Alps to the South, you notice a few spots were groups of people seem to congregate. In today's post I present two cars which attracted large crowds. If fact, that made it extremely difficult to photograph them. (Can you spot the Lederhosen in the photo above? ;-)

Of course most people know the Delorean from the Back to the Future movies. I've always considered the first one a true classic movie, which I've enjoyed a few times over the years – but the sequels?

Eventually I had to give up trying to photograph the Delorean, it was simply too popular. It was like a magnet drawing people in to inspect it.

They were produced in Northern Ireland by an American playboy entrepreneur who was a former US auto executive. After a FBI drug bust the company went under -- there are plenty of documentaries on YouTube if you're interested.

What you might not know, after the company went under, a company bought the factory, cars in production, parts, and design specs. Long story short, now you can purchase a new Delorean from a company in Texas. (see video above)

This model Porsche, as far as I know, was produced from 1956 to 1958 – please comment if you know more. It had 75 BHP and went from 0-60 in 14.5 seconds, top speed 109 mph / 175 km/h. Source:

There were so many beautifully restored Porsche models around, but it was this rusty patina that drew crowds. That made it difficult to photograph, but I was lucky and was able to take a few shots during a short lull in the foot traffic. bf DSC_0146.jpg

Damn I would want that Porsche, let it get fixed and put a Tesla engine inside :D

That would be the ultimate sleeper, shutting down Mustangs at every stop light ;-)
