Metaphysical photography is one of the not established (yet, hope so) directions in modern photography.

Actually, this direction closely intersects with abstract minimalism, on the one hand, and with street or direct photography, on the other hand. But it has a number of qualities, that make it independent.

Usual plot of this photos presents everyday life scenes. The stage — habitual space of a city dweller. In the same time, there is no rejection of objectivity in metaphysical photography, unlike in abstract photography. Objects do not cease to be themselves, they don't become just lines and spots on the image plane. Metaphysical photography doesn't make a bright first impression or surprise the audience at the first sight. Usually it seems very ordinary. And yet it is able to amaze and inspire. Primarily due to a "different" view on the usual objects.

Due to creating a parallel reality in the flat space of the photo, that doesn't destroy the actual reality, but interacts with it.

Due to the flickering of the significances of objects: they act as real objects, and as symbols with not completely clear meaning, and as formal elements of the composition of the frame.

The founder and leader of the direction is the Russian photographer Alexander Slyusarev. He also came up with the term "metaphysical photography".
