Some Brooklyn Graffiti

in photography •  7 years ago

Various things brought me over to Ridgewood and Bushwick Brooklyn. It was a nice day, and I prefer to walk when it is logistically possible. So I hoofed it from Ridgewood, down to Bushwick and finally over to Williamsburg in the evening.

Came across some graffiti. Which is not uncommon in Brooklyn, or New York for that matter. Thought I'd share a few shots with the kind people here, since you do not all live in NYC.

This first one is kind of bad. The color choices seem to be whatever cans of paint they could get their hands on. The execution is basically without any clear intention or form. It's not even bubble letters! I can see what they were shooting for, but the paint is just not covering solid enough. And really, they should practice they forms in their notebook more. But hey, at least they made an effort.

This second one is a step up. Some more interesting color choice, and some atypical forms. This artist is also more effective at conveying texture than most that I saw.

Kind of Generic but honestly I like these. They are classic if a little bit bland in terms of color choice. The sparkles and Jack Kirby-esque 'power balls' are nice touches.

Maurice White here has to have been my favorite. It is not your typical rattle can artwork. But rather wheatpasted applique. The black and white is pretty effective against the background of metatasizing tags and bombs.
