Last Night's Blood Moon (Yet Another Photostory)

in photography •  6 years ago  (edited)

If you remember yesterday's post, we witnessed a total lunar eclipse last night, a Blood Moon.

We were out for beers and dinner with a few other Steemians, @trumpman, @steemychicken1 and @hotgates. Τhe night was growing darker and the moon started setting in the sky. Then, @steemychicken1 suggested going for some night moon photography. We got on the boys' bikes, dropped by @steemychicken1's house to take his camera and tripod and found a place away from the bright city lights to enjoy the show that had already started.

Below are a few of the shots our professional photographer took last night... and secretly made me jealous!

Those are before the totality phase:

Το φεγγάρι μας ντράπηκε απόψε...

The moon got shy tonight...

Είπε να πάει να κρυφτεί πίσω από τη σκιά μας.

And went to hide behind our shadow.

And as time was going by, the Moon turned more and more red...

Μα το θυμάμαι ασημί...

But I remember it being silver...

Να στάζει απ'το ασήμι του μες στο σκοτεινό δωμάτιό μου.

Dripping its silver drops inside my dark room.

Until it finally turned scarlet...

Ματωμένο φεγγάρι απόψε...

There is a bloody moon tonight...

Άλικο, κόκκινο για να ταιριάζει με τις ψυχές κάποιων ανθρώπων.

Scarlet, red to match some people's souls.

Seriously cool!!! I was hoping you would post some pics today!! Oh, and wayy too fun to go for dinner with fellow steemians!!! I can't wait to get back to Greece again!!

It was amazing!! We went to a place by a stream in the suburbs, there was little public lighting, so we could take good shots. We were sitting on a low, protective wall built along the stream, listening to the song of the frogs, having the moon in our front and some sparse lightning in the back...

If you come back, make sure to drop by our places in the North ;)

Wow, that sounds so tranquil with awesome company.
Thanks so much for the invite! I am working on coming back there :)

You witnessed the event of a century, I am happy for you.

I missed it and got a little sad about it. Therefore I watched documentations about the eclipse to catch up. Of course it cannot replace the real thing. You'll probably never forget it. I felt humbled by the movies I watched provided by NASA and the meaning of each and every planet in our solar system. It seems as if there would only one be missing, life on earth would be impossible. Like Jupiter which is our protector of all flying around comets preventing them to fly towards earth.

Sometimes I wonder about the order of things in the Universe. It will remain a mystery. That is somehow soothing, in a way.

Oh it will definitely be a memory to hold on to for years, amazing, purely amazing! You could imagine so many dark stories talking place on Earth or out there, in the skies during this "mystical" time... My imagination went wild!

The order of things in the Universe? I admire the harmony even within seeming disharmony. Like you said it, it will remain a mystery, how this vast Universe balances everything and manages to preserve life. It makes you feel gratitude towards God (or whatever entity or power one believes that has created all this) and marvel this divine balance that keeps everything together.

see me nodding :)
Have a great weekend!

Άλικο σαν τη ψ.....υχη μου!

Thank you!! :D

Thank you for these! We were driving in the mountains to a full, very big and very bright moon but like everyone else in the US we didn't get these wonderful views.

Thank @steemychiken1 :P
My tripod sucks and my lenses are not that powerful, he got really beautiful shots.

Next year it's America's turn to see an eclipse, don't worry ;)

We won't be in the US that much longer. The babies and mommy want to see the world, so why not?

beautiful photos, beautiful moon! It was a pity that we could not appreciate it here

Thanks! We got lucky last night. It was years since I last watched an eclipse and that was really beautiful!

Yes, you were very lucky ! The only eclipse that I have appreciated was one of sun many years ago where the day got dark for a few minutes. It was really amazing! I think it was the only one in a long time that has been seen from Maracaibo.

I think I have a similar experience too, it was more than 15 years ago...

You got good shots when I wanted to take the picture, unfortunately, I wasn't at home- so no camera.

Ooh, that's too bad. At first it was cloudy near the horizon and thought we'd miss it, but as the moon got higher the sky was clear.
I hope you get more lucky next time :)

These photos are awesome. Love to see all the different shapes. Unfortunately I wasn't able to see it myself...

Thanks, the credits go tο @steemychicken1 of course, my camera didn't get such good shots :(

I think @steemychicken1 did an excellent job capturing the total eclipse (it can be tricky getting the right exposure as well as focus). Sound's like you guys had a great time following it.

It was low in the sky for us here, but did manage to get a few photo's. I might put them up later.

I watched him do his magic tricks and the results came out pretty good. I just wish I can take such good pictures some day.

Ooooh! I'd love to see shots from your point of view. Please, please show us! :D

Hey @ruth-girl nothing too spectacular, but I just blogged some of my eclipse photos.

Aaah, I saw it this afternoon! :)

Beautiful shots! I'm so sad that we didn't get to see any of it. We had thick cloud cover and thunderstorms instead. :(

Oh, I'm sorry. Maybe you get better luck next time.

I keep hoping my luck changes but since moving to Florida, every time there's a really cool celestial event, I get overcast skies. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm curse. LOL

Those pictures of the red moon are great @ruth-girl, it must be cool to see an eclipse such as this one and have the equipment to take amazing shots :P

It was really cool and I got jealous of @steemychicken1's camera that managed to get such great shots. Mine got only a bright spot in the dark sky (because I had a smaller lense and no tripod with me)

Wow. This feels so real. We did saw it in this side of the world. All the best and do have a beautiful weekend.

@eurogee of @euronation and @steemstem communities

It was amazing to be able to see it in the sky and on the camera screen, it made you want to get up there and see what your lens was capturing....

Have a great weekend too @eurogee! :)

Yesterday night was such a historic day for me. It was wonderful seeing the manoeuvres of the milky-way.
