Capturing the Candid: How to Capture Candid Moments with Ease

Capturing the Candid

Recently I had the opportunity to go on a photoshoot adventure with @Karissa_Majeski and @hippyjreamer. The young couple was a joy to work with and were naturals in front of the camera! The format of the shoot was very relaxed - allowing the couple to not focus on the camera and instead focus on each other! Capturing candid and intimate moments are not something that a photographer can simply recreate with forced poses . Instead, they quickly come and go and it is the photographer's job to capture those blink-of-an-eye moments.

Capturing the Candid is not always as easy as it sounds. Sometimes you have to anticipate the moments before they occur. At one moment I noticed a car was approaching. This had happened many times and normally we would stop shooting for a moment, move to the shoulder of the road and let the car pass. However this time I decided to keep the shoot going. Why you might ask? Because this time something was different - Karissa and Jerry were not aware the car was approaching! I thought this would be a great opportunity to capture a spontaneous moment that would lead to raw emotion. The car approached and startled Karissa and Jerry, and drove around us. Like anticipated, Karissa and Jerry then looked my way - allowing me to capture a priceless and candid moment. Sometimes capturing the best candid moments are anticipating when they will occur.
