The Toucan is a common sight in Costa Rica. Toucans have the largest bill of any bird relative to their body size but despite this, the bill only accounts for one twentieth of the birds mass, being made of a light weight Keratin. These toucans weigh between 600- 750 grams. They eat predominantly fruit and lay clutches of 3-4 pure white eggs. Both sexes are similar in coloration.Beside the colours visible here in my photos they have a small bright red area on their rump and blue legs. They are quite nervous birds and tend to hide or fly off if they see me focusing my camera on them.
