The first thing I noticed getting up this morning was the sun was shining. I looked out the window and my neighbors were already out sunbathing.

I decided to invite a friend round for breakfast and as I sat on the terrace embracing those all too rare sunrays I noticed a small hole on the underside of the roof where some activity was going on.

The warbling wrens who I see always on the balcony there had found a hole in the roof and moved in. As they approached the hole with insects in their mouths I would hear the faint calls of their young babies inside. What a great place for a nest! No snake or cat was going to get in there. At first they seemed a little nervous of my presence but within a few minutes continued their task of bringing food to the nest unheeded by the cat and I taking breakfast below them.

Things in the garden are enjoying the sunshine. This papaya tree I planted a few weeks ago has gone from knee height to shoulder height and looks healthy. They always drop their leaves as they grow leaving a bare trunk and all growth happens always in just the top few inches.

The avocado tree I grew from a seed is also looking good. It will be some years before it gives avocados but is a gift to the earth more than a source of food to me so I don’t mind that.
