i was recently reading about this concept. the way society is nowadays you are pressured to be only perfect, theres no room for mistakes. the end result is suppressing the less desirable traits within yourself and ending up not knowing your true self.
I'm not really into sci fi but the Star Wars series touch on this theory

Which will win? I think of them as wolves. Good wolf and bad wolf. Whichever one you feed will win. Whichever you starve will die.
