Nice shots!

One of the great things about photographing mushrooms is that they don't move 8-).

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

It is true ... but there is little light, you have to find them ... in short it has its difficulties ....

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Yes, the light can be a problem. I sometimes use long exposure times and a cheap miniature tripod for mushroom photos.

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

The tripod is not very comfortable in the wood ..... and it's too high for the mushrooms! In short I prefer the free hand and the stomach to the ground ...

The one I use (the one in the photo) is only 11cm high 8-).

Really beautiful shots! And you're right A. muscaria is know for its psychoactive properties. It contains muscimol, which is a psychoactive compound that is sometimes described as psychedelic but for what I've heard from trip reports makes people feel more like sedated (it's a GABAa agonist). However, this mushroom also contains ibotenic acid, which causes confusion, euphoria, visual and auditory distortions but also nausea and vomiting; and muscarine, which causes blurred vision and diarrhea, among other unpleasant symptoms. So, yeah, it doesn't seem like a fun mushroom to play with.

You're right ... it's a nice mushroom to watch! But in some areas they eat this mushroom .... mah!

Great shots... Where did you find these mushrooms? They are beautiful!

Very pretty - really like these a lot.

If you ever come across a mushroom you can't identify, consider taking a bunch of more specific photos -

  • from above, showing what its growing on
  • from below
  • close up of stem
  • close up of where gills meet stem
  • close up of stem broken in half
  • close up of flesh immediately cut in half, then second photo of it cut in half after a couple of minutes wait
  • If you're down for it, take a spore print and take a photo of that.

Then I can take those photos and make an ID post about it - and I'll do it 50/50 and give you the SBD. I may not be successful in ID'ing it - but the process is what counts!

Just a thought. If the opportunity presents itself DM me on discord or steemit chat. :)

Do you think it might affect the process of identifying a mushroom to the Steamians .... Maybe.

Part of the goal would be demonstrating good id methodology - but it would also be explicitly non-foraging (not for edibility purposes) - just an entertaining use of such nice photos

That's a nice discovery through a resteem, I like your photography.
