Spring Snow in the Virginia Mountains

Christiansburg, Virginia,  established on November 10, 1792,  was originally a string of taverns and rest stops along the Great Wilderness Road (present-day U.S. Route 11).  The town was named in honor of Colonel William Christian, an early settler in the region, a member of the Virginia Legislature, and was also the brother-in-law of Patrick Henry. Theodore Roosevelt wrote that Colonel Christian was a “noted Indian fighter” and a “very gallant and honorable man.”

I have moved to this beautiful town temporarily to work on a Government construction project and while working out of town always sucks, the awesome landscapes around here are endless. It seems like another beautiful picture awaits you around every turn.

Christiansburg is located in Montgomery County, Va. in the Northern Blue Ridge Highlands.

There are dairy farms everywhere, even my closest neighbors are cows.

This area gets a lot of snow, and, as you can see, it still snows in April!

I will be posting lots of pictures from this area, to include the famous Blue Ridge Parkway nearby, so look for those if you like beautiful mountain scenery, or cows...lol!
