Basle reflections I - Capturing unreal reality [1 SBD challenge inside]

in photography •  7 years ago

Greetings Steemians!

This morning I made a trip to Basle for a little photo hunt. Initially, I had aimed to capture how spring is starting to spread across the town. However, the weather and thus light conditions did not cooperate. It got grey and cloudy and finally some rain set in.

And so I omitted my initial intension and I started to meander along the streets. Looking here and there for anything worth capturing.

Then, more or less by coincidence, a bank's shop-window caught my attention. I saw a bird and a fox sitting in a boat, looking towards an elderly gentleman in a waiting tramway. How unreal. I quickly grabbed my camera and captured that very moment:

And then it strucked me. An entire realm of new possibilities opened up in front of my eyes. The world, how it is mirrored and distorted in glas fronts or shop windows and at the same time blended with what shines through from behind the reflective surface.

Capturing collages that already exist as an observable reality and don't need to be created. Composing alone by altering the angle of vision.

I feel I have tapped into something that is worth some further exploration.

With this I leave you with my first collection of Basle reflections. See for yourself whether these photos appeal to you. I'll be happy to read about your thoughts in the comments!

And here the challenge: one of the pictures shows a detail of a famous sculpture. What is the name of the sculpture? First comment with the correct answer will be rewarded with 1 SBD.

Thanks for watching and have a great day on Steemit!

Ist das die Bronze-Skulptur der Bürger von Calais, Auguste Rodin, im Kunstmuseum?

Jap, ist es :)

Alter Schwede! Du bist n Fuchs!

Leider nicht so flauschig wie ein Fuchs... ;)

Smart und flauschig? @obvious, also alles kannste nicht haben! :P

So a Mist aber auch ^^

Correcto! 1 SBD incoming (soon) :)

Muchas gracias

Niemand will ohne Einverständnis fotografiert werden.

As you know, I love these contests that you do and I think this time I'm late but the answer is Die Bürger von Calais von Auguste Rodin, Place de l'Hôtel de Ville in Calais

That's the correct answer! But as you say, @obvious resolved it already. Nevertheless, thanks for joining in and see you next time!

That's right I hope to arrive soon for the next contest @@ obvious did very well, congratulations and by the way @shaka I liked many such images I hope someday buy me some camera to go out to take pictures

Nice and different pictures to the ones I am used to seeing here. They remind me of a photography class I read when I was a student. My father is a (locally) award-winning photographer but photography never sticked to me.
Oh, and I have always thought there were a lot of Teslas in Switzerland and your picture is more proof. I will also be again in Basel in June, I will fly in and then a short trip to the Interlaken and Jungfraujoch. It has eluded me for three years in a row due to unexpected storms.
Have fun traveling!

Hi @alexdory, thanks for stopping by!

So my first question is, what can we do to get your father onboard? I would be more than interested to see some of his work!

Sounds like you can look forward having an awesome trip in June. I haven't yet made it to Jungfraujoch and I therefore hope that you will share some pictures when you get back :)

Cheers!

I would like him to post also. He is an investigative journalist and that is a very stressful job in a country plagued with corruption. He shot most of his works on film, he says he is awaiting retirement to fully develop all his rolls of film. I have bought him an expensive film scanner but still no results :D

I will share pictures , I am not used to post a lot of my travels, but I really like to travel.
Thanks!

with this steemit platform, we can share with each other and get to know each other. good luck mr @shaka

Klar, unbedingt selbst mal ausprobieren.

very nice photography @shaka

Thanks!

The pictures came out beautiful and lovely. That should be from D'Auguste Rodin

Thanks! That is correct, yet I was asking about the name of the sculpture. However, the correct name was already given by @obvious. Anyway, thank you for participating in this little challenge.

beautifull photogrpahy i really like your post @shaka

Coole Challenge... leider zu spät :(

Hello, I'm new here on your blog I saw this contest, plus the photos and between you make beautiful photos I started to investigate and it's Die Bürger von Calais von Auguste Rodin I had seen it before @shaka

Thanks for stopping by and for participating in this little challenge. The answer is correct yet was already given. Cheers!

If I saw that it was already given, congratulations to the winner you have to be very fast but I love this contest I hope you do more so I will be here next time @shaka

Gar keine schlechte Idee :) Mal sehen...Danke fürs Vorbeischauen!

Quite an amazing collection @shaka. Too bad, I'm late on the contest already. Meanwhile, there is something very unique about the lighting, reflection and the combination of different aesthetics in a single photo, in all of the photos you took. I'm assuming you planned it that way. It looks quite intriguing. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks @rickie. It was rather experimenting but planned, but I have already a few ideas of what I could try out additionally with this technique. Thanks for you comment!

Hi @shaka how are you? While I read what this is about, I see that they have already solved the challenge so I think we all know the answer, I hope to participate for the next one. I find this exciting, you do a good job with the camera.

Thank you! The next challenge is just around the corner ;)

I'm anxious for this to happen I'm excited about this, by the way you make good pictures I love them I like to put pictures like this to my phone as a wallpaper I think they look beautiful I do not stop looking

Well, I can't find the sculpture but that was a brilliant post and even more brilliant idea!!!

Thanks! Glad to hear that :)

Okay, I have no idea what the name of the sculpture is... but I do see Tesla! hahah :)

Super neat photos, really really love them.

Thanks for stopping by! Glad you like the shots :) And yes, Tesla can be spotted quite often in this region here:)

heheh! :) Can't wait to see more. Super stunning!

I am a new follower, from Venezuela a greeting, I am impressed by the photographs you took, I detail each one and it is a great job. Brasilea is full of art, and I like kinetic art a lot. excellent post. @shaka

Thank you!

wow so nice photo @shaka

Very kind thank you for that great support, I hope to tell you among your followers, again thank you very much, that you triple in great health. @shaka

Sculpture from August Rodin, The Burghers of Calais, Kunstmuseum Basel, Basel, Switzerland

hard one... so many sculptures in Basle it seems! :P

You can say that again :)

That is absolutely correct! However, @obvious catched it a bit earlier than you. Nevertheless, thanks for participating!

Thx, next time!!;)

I maybe too late for the challenge, but not on the important insight that you are sharing in this post :)
I actually find it interesting, the way you angle your shots to see both the objects behind the glass and the reflection of its surroundings.
It reminds me of the "Overlay" filter in Photoshop and a little bit of the "Double exposure images", both are using 2 images that will be combined to create a single picture. And noe you did it in 1 shot, how cool!
That's an interesting technique for me to try in my street photography :-) I guess it can only be done during twilight.
Thanks for sharing!

I had the same thought, that some of the photos appear as being composed with PS using layers. It's certainly worth experimenting with that technique. Thanks for your comment!

In my mind, I'm only thinking on how do I execute and be creative with this technique. Definitely, it will be inspired by the photos that you showed in your post :)

Nervenkitzel. Logo, Schätzfragen gehen immer. Ich befürworte grundsätzlich alles was Spaß bringt. Danke, @shaka!

I like it! It looks weird (in a good way 8-), makes you look for a long time.

Thanks @ocrdu, happy to hear that :)

pleasant trip @shaka. sorry I do not know what statue is there. I just enjoy some of the images that you fit in the article. This is very unique, because it is a photo with a shadow object. this is fantastic :)

The photos are very unique. Like having a dimension that makes us curious.

Erick Steinbrecher ?! ;)

Leider nein, aber danke fürs Mitraten!

Well done job.All I see is a reflection of real world on a glass enclosing a lot of collections, but all these pictures actually swept me off my feet. I love the picture that has bags inclusive. 👍

Thanks! I like the colors of the one with bags very much.

ha ... ha ... this picture according to my analysis cartoon posters embedded inside. I am happy with this challenge, because it makes people dizzy in guessing images. I also expect you to do this for the next day.
