The bridge of the Holy Angel at the beginning of the sixteenth century was the only route to the Vatican and the castle of the Holy Angel. Now you can go there by many roads. Since then, Rome has greatly increased in size. Previously, criminals were hung on this bridge, and now homeless people live in tents under it.
From the Umberto I bridge, on which I stand, there is a wonderful view of the dome of St. Peter’s Cathedral — the largest building of the Vatican.
