Gombojab Tsybikov (1873-1930) is a Buryat explorer, a subject of the Russian Empire, who explored Tibet between 1899 and 1902 and who was also a specialist in social anthropology in Buddhist studies, and some time after 1917 he was a Educator and an important statesman in Siberia and Mongolia.
He is best known for being the first photographer in Tibet, including Lhasa. His travel journal, published in Russian in 1919, 1981, and 1991, includes many translations of Tibetan on the history of Tibet and first-hand accounts of Tibetan affairs of the time, making it a major source of reference.
