Elephant pearls

in photography •  6 years ago

I came across a pair of elephant pearls at a Hindu religious fair and captured it in my camera. It was possessed by a sadhu who said to have got it as gift from another sadhu. These are considered sacred as Goddess of wealth resides in it. Also, these are used as lucky charms for attracting wealth, progeny and good health. They have magnetic fields. I have uploaded images. The one looking like an egg is pearl of a female elephant and the other is that of a male elephant.

These are one of the nine kinds of pearls. It’s rare because elephants which produce it are now extinct. These were formed on heads and base of tusks as immune response to infections. Only one in 70-80 elephants formed such pearls.
