Crested barbet

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

This morning while feeding our tame (wild) doves, I saw this crested barbet sitting there. I don't know whether it's a baby that is trying out his/her wings, or whether it's a sickly one, and if so, it will most likely die then. The sun was already too harsh, but I managed to get a few snaps of the bird.

Enjoy the day, and take care. Soon us South Africans will be talking about Spring! The swallows are back.

ps, sadly to say the barbet didn't make it.

Swallows are back? Means they are leaving us... a bit too early I think.
This birdie is so pretty! Looks like a young one for some reason.

Yes, it is a bit on the early side as it's only middle August. I always look out for the swallows and saw my first one late Tuesday afternoon. It can still get very cold this side. I also think the barbet was a young one, I tried to keep the dogs inside but the one dog got to the birdie. My granddaughter who is visiting me managed to rescue the bird and although we couldn't see any wounds on it, no broken wings, it must have been a weakling or died from shock.

Awww poor birdie :(

What an extraordinary bird. It looks like a young bird to me. And here the swallows are gathering to leave how interesting.

I'm afraid the bird is no more.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Glad I had the chance to take photos of him/her close by. My granddaughter and I gave the bird a proper burial. :)
