Hakka Houses (Tulou) in Longyan, China

in photography •  7 years ago

When the Hakka people from Northern China settled in Fujian province, they brought along with them a rather unique way of building houses.

The reason for this unusual way of building was to provide better defense against potential attackers.

Up to 100 families could live in such houses, each with their own little room and with the center of the house being the common area.

We were not allowed to take pictures, so unfortunately I only have a few.

People today still live in these houses, quite interesting.
