Near Infrared Photography - Morning in the main pit at the quarry part 2 🏞steemCreated with Sketch.

Spending time in the main pit can be rewarding, finding Kyanite and Lazulite is common. Along with large pieces of Silicia stone, some with Iron inclusions and some with Kyanite in the Quartz.

The large boulder in the first picture had many minerals on its surface, but the rocks are very hard and difficult to get much out of them without power tools (with are prohibited).

Many pine trees around the pit, and as @cosmiccrimes pointed out it seems as if they were planted down in the pit. My thoughts are they were seeds that went undisturbed for a few years.

This is my entry for #colorchallenge #tuesdayorange initiated by @kalemandra.

There was not much shade in the pit, or for most of the quarry. Some of these small pines gave some minor shade, though many brought pop up tents to be better covered. There are pockets that are covered in shade but usually the rockhounds find them first and take the sweet spots.

A view of the dried out portion of Tea Pond, and looking up at the line of pine trees covering the road up out of the main pit.

There is a wire fence stopping people from going into the pond for good reason, the waters have a higher acidity that than human stomach. Many do not know this so its fenced off for others safety.

A full spectrum photo including visual light showing the scene in the first image. You can see that big rock has some interesting vanes in it.

Another full spectrum photo, not using my filters. The rock wall can be seen with more detail.
The rock wall along the road back up out of the pit. Many people were hammering and digging holes at the base of the wall in hopes to find fresh minerals.

Not all like to dig through tailings so theres always something for everyone at this places. You can just walk around and find great stones on the ground, you can dig for fresh ones or you can sort through huge piles of tailings large machines dug up.

Seems everyone has a plan there or if they dont they watch others and figure out what to do.

@spivey

thank you I tend to agree.

Looks like a rock heads gold mine. :-)

@manorvillemike

It is, if you are willing to just walk around and keep your head down looking at the rocks in front of you things are found within an hour usually.

Beautiful!

@ludmila.kyriakou
