Ultraviolet and Near Infrared Photography - Tea Pond at Graves Mountain

in photography •  6 years ago  (edited)

This pond is just as murky as it looks, its called Tea Pond due to its acidity with a PH of 2.5. That is stronger than your stomach acid.

It was formed due to rain water run off from the quarry surrounding the pond. So all of the heavy metals have gathered in this pond. Causing its PH to drop to very acidic levels, with high amounts of sulfuric acid making the water appear as Tea.. for sure a negative aspect of mining for minerals.

Another view to the right of Tea Pond. Lots of trees growing around the pond but not much life from what I can see inside.

I guess nothing swims in there for to long.

@manorvillemike

Probably some specialized bacteria or extremophiles of short but thats about it. I glassed the water for while and saw no movement what so ever in it.

Regarding the first picture ('s link) I think you've made a mistake right there. Apart from that, beautiful scenery!

Thanks, fixed now. I forgot to make it clickable and tried to change it on my phone. I broke it and had to get on my computer to fix.

Thanks much, sure was those tree lines up on the mountain look cool.

Beautiful pictures @solominer

Surely the pool is not safe to use for swimming, lol 😁

Thanks, hah yeah not safe for swimming. I wonder if i put meat in there overnight if it would be dissolved by the next day.
