Magnificent Moreton Island - QUEENSLAND - AUSTRALIA

in photography •  7 years ago

Moreton Island is the world’s third biggest sand island. It is an island on the coast of South East Queensland, North East of Queensland’s capital city Brisbane. The island has crystal clear blue waters teeming with sea life, beautiful grassy areas for picnics under palm trees and soft white sands. 98 Percent of the island is contained within the Moreton Island National Park, which has a World Conservation Union category of II.

Moreton Island is 37km long from north to south and 13km at it’s widest point. The highest point at 280m is named Mount Tempest. This island is accessible from Brisbane in a 75 minute ferry ride. Transportation on the island is by tour or taxi services using four wheel drive (off road) vehicles only.

There is a variety of accommodation options from glamping, holiday houses and a resort. On the island there is a great selection of activities available including go sand tobogganing, snorkel the Tangalooma wrecks, feed wild dolphins at sunset, visit Cape Moreton lighthouse, climb Mt Tempest, Swim in Blue Lagoon, enjoy a whale watching cruise, kayak the wrecks by night, view the island from the air (helicopter ride), roast marshmallows over a campfire, hit the sand tracks in a 4wd, wallow in the Champagne Pools, walk the Rous Battery track, get pampered at the Message Hut, jump on a quad bike, go parasailing and more!

This beautiful island makes a perfect holiday for couples, groups or families. Everyone can find something exciting (or relaxing) to do in the warm sunshine, white sand and crystal clear blue waters. Please enjoy this glimpse of a wonderful tropical island from day into the night.

Palms and coconut trees give a tropical feel as do the hibiscus flowers and other tropical landscaping plants.

There are plenty of wide open spaces to find an area all to yourself on the edge of white sands with blue waters.

The waters are full of sea creatures and further down the beach there are the Tangalooma wrecks where you can snorkel and see over 100 species of fish along with corals and sometimes dolphins, wobbegongs and dugongs.
