It may look to be a very large and dense forest. However these trees are tiny Beech trees. All vying for life where 1 or 2 will dominate and the rest will probably die. For a sense of scale the leaves in the foreground are about the size of a pinky nail!! Sorry I'm not sure which type of beach it is, there a 5 native to NZ and I still can't remember the name of the fifth one or how to tell them apart!!
