Part 4: Underwater Photography: Final 3 Photos from My Underwater Dreams ProjectsteemCreated with Sketch.

in photography •  7 years ago

This underwater photography project explored materials and textures, color, surface reflections, and the human form to capture some really amazing photographs. Here are the last 3 photos from my first underwater photography project titled "Underwater Dreams".

As I mentioned in my previous underwater photography posts, they were ALL taken with a Fuji XP80 sport camera. With proper lighting (full sun) and calm, clear water, this camera does a great job giving me the base photos to work from and digitally enhance to create the final images.

This photo session took about 3 hours, from 11AM to 2PM, and required a lot of patience from me and the models with passing clouds and fabrics that floated freely in the currents. This forth and final part of the session continued with a dark netting and material to act as a contrasting color for the blues. As we got into this portion, our typical Florida thunderstorms started to roll in and we had to wrap up, so we rushed it a bit and only got a few good shots.

Holding positions underwater is not easy and takes a bit of trial and error to find poses that create an interesting reflection in the water's surface above the model. For this, the model must be given proper credit for her efforts, grace, and patience. The water must remain relatively calm with only minor surface ripples to get the desired results, too many bubbles can also block the model and ruin the shot as well.

As with the other photos in this series, I used the "beach daylight" settings on the camera, NOT the "underwater" setting as you might think. That setting mutes out the skin tones and results in an overall blue-ish tint to the photos with splotchy shadow areas.

The End, or Ends! :-)

Kudos. Great to see others atempting this genre. Underwater model photography is by far one of thr most chellenging ones and the models often completely overestimate their abilities. The variables in water conditions can also cause a lot of problems and also too many things can also go wrong with equipment. The feeling when photos do turn out is just awe.

Really, really cool shots @steempowerpics! I've never done any underwater photography. My friend @britleigh has and it always makes me want to, so these just fuel that curiosity. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Lars, I'm happy you like my work. I really admire your photography so I take it in high regard that mine can motivate you.

It's a very unique experience that requires patience since so many things are out of your control as the photographer. The crazy thing is - I was not even using my "pro" camera for this, but they came out good enough that I put them together in a photobook I made on Adoramapix, and the girls made some metal prints, they came out nice.

I have a couple more sets in my blog going back a few weeks if you haven't seen them already and will have more soon from an underwater shoot I just did last week.

These are some very gorgeous shots! I was in a couple of shots like this once but to be used for a painter as his subject. I miss those days a tad bit.

Thank you. You can always have your husband take some underwater pictures in the pool :-) I did another underwater shoot this past week, so I have new pictures I will post in the coming weeks.

Wow, nice photos! I think it's really difficult to keep the camera/models in a position. Upvoted! :)

Thank you Wolf :-) It is definitely a challenge. I just did another underwater shoot yesterday, the first 30-45 minutes is really a leaning experience to for the model to get familiar how things work underwater, and for me to learn how the model responds to it all so I can be ready to get the photos.

Nice photos, good talent. I like nudity. If you like love stories, I invite you to my profile, I will publish original love stories. =)
