Preparations For The “Walking Street” In Chiang Mai, Thailand, aka “Sunday Market”.

in photography •  8 years ago

Every Sunday night a few streets in old city Chiang Mai get blocked off for traffic for what they call the “Walking Street” event. I walked during the preparation part while the vendors where setting up their booths.

I have filmed everything while I was walking and will try to edit and publish the video later if people are interested in seeing it.

In this post I'll just post some pictures you you can get an idea what the setup for the event looks like.

I ran into this event by accident because I had to go the the currency exchange to get some Thai Baht. As a curious Alien I had to see what was going on.

The event goes from 16:00 until 24:00 (Midnight). There are at least a half a dozen streets that I have walked during the setup preparation faze that are closed to traffic and filled with interesting vendors.

Even before the event started, I could tell this is going to be huge. There where tons of tourists already walking around and checking out what is available and what was going to be available soon.

There where a lot of artists that I noticed selling probably their own work. Also some real neat crafts.

There was a multitude of vendors who sold food and some of it was very exotic. I talked to a tourist from the Earth country of China, and she told me nothing was going to stop her from trying some of the bugs one of the vendors was selling. I opted to skip it for now, until my Earth gut pro-biotic bacteria builds up and I can handle it.

I have more photos and videos. Would you like to see more? Have you been to this event? What do you think about it?
