Wow
"It can do this, it can do that, it can do everything."
I've been watching a lot of A7-III reviews. I don't know why though, guess I got nothing better to do with my life. God, I've wasted so much time, but anyways, after getting over the initial hype for this camera I started noticing people would make videos titled "A7-III for [place category here] photography" or simply keep on praising the AF and shadow recovery etc.
Enough is enough.
Yes, it's a good camera, but is it that different? NO.
First, the cringiest part. Why on earth would you need videos explaining how to do a certain kind of photography on the A7-III. All the basics of photography remain the same. Nothing changes. All these videos should be called "hey, here's me explaining how to use this camera for people too lazy to read the instructions manual".
Secondly, the amazing shadow recovery. I don't think it's that amazing. I think it's simply okay. Nor is the noise that good. I recently downloaded some test shots on my computer and compared them to my cheap K50. It's not a night and day difference. I can easily recover 2 stops on ISO100 on my K50 without really degrading the image, Sony can do it too. What's the big deal? Yes, it might do it a little cleaner. Is that worth losing your mind over? No.
I suspect all the hardcore Canon users are moving over to Sony and think this is something new and amazing whereas Nikon and Pentax have been killing it for many years at dynamic range.
Granted, the new sensor is amazing at high ISO settings. My K50 doesn't stand a chance in that regard. And the AF is reportedly best in class. Might be. I know it sucks on my camera. But it's not as if you can't get accurate focus with inferior AF.
I know, I know... it's all "going with the flow". The A7-iii is really hot right now. It's smart putting "A7-iii" in your title to gather more views.
Here are some ideas for fellow content creators:
- Why I use the 70-200 on my A7-III
- The best lens for the A7-III
- Why the A7-iii is the best camera for portrait photography
- Macro photography on the A7-III
- A7-III - the best all around camera?
- Amazing hidden features on the A7-III you don't know about (unless you actually read the f*cking manual)
- etc
...that's youtube for ya or any other attention-media place really.

2000$ in the US though.
~2000$ has been the standard price for new FF basic model cameras. It's expensive stuff. The high end goes for 5000$.

It doesn't look so expensive if you can use some of your STEEM value to pay for it.

I can totally see the following happening: selling at 20 and having to buy back at 30 as the price never dropped. Haha

Thanks for sharing. I did own the A7 but sold it for a A77ii. Never bad feelings about that. But maybe the a7iii is quickers etc. Problem is there are not many lenses available or you have to buy an adapter

At first i had Nikon D3s , for many years, amazing light low performance since it is just 12Mpx FF sensor. Then hard times came and i had to sell all my gear. Scrambled for Sony A6300 since i could not life without taking pictures anymore. Then thanks to all steemian upvotes i decided to go for A7RII and for the price difference from A7RIII get myself a nifty Zeis 55m 1.8 lens, the sharpest glass i have owned so far.
I can not elaborate on Shadow recovery of A7RIII being an owner of A7RII having in mind some people are saying that mark II is even better at it then Mark III. To be truly honest i was blown away by it's ability to pulldetail from the shadows. Then again, being stuck with old Nikon D3s Sony A7RII was a major upgrade sensor vise to me nor cab i compare it to K50.
I am not a tech guy, and i try to shoot in a way that i do not need to pull out too much, anyway. But then the hightlights, which again Sony A7RII handles so well that i was really impressed. So i guess it is all situational, since going to the extremes of pulling from the shadows fucks up the color tones etc.
Other than that i tend to travel a lot recently, and small lightweight body is really useful for this. To be honest i am really impressed with it, genuinely. But again, i have not tried many of the alternatives, maybe they are all just as good, i can not tell.
Verdict? I am very pleased and it meet almost all of my current needs :)

The K50 uses the same sensor that's in K5 and Nikon D7000. It's a 16mp apsc Sony sensor :P
At the time of it's release it had the best dynamic ranger available. So maybe that's why I'm not impressed, because I've been using an old but great Sony sensor. And my camera has IBIS too :P
But it does show it's age. High ISO noise is pretty bad and the AF is from the stone age :D

If I was in the market for a new camera (or had money to burn), I'd definitely buy an A7III.
I currently shoot with the original Sony A7 - and I'm very happy with the quality of the stills from that. From what I've seen the still image quality is only very slightly better with this camera.
Where this camera is interesting for me is the beautiful full frame video - and that would save me from having to carry two cameras around (a m43 for video and the Sony for stills).
