Countless shades of colour in a world of 50 grays

I don’t label. Not myself, not you.
Yet I can’t help smiling when being stamped by others as ‘LGBTQ+’;
assigning me close to half of the alphabet to identify with.

I guess it is hard to put a label on people who appreciate all of rainbows’ shades,
when all you see is in black, white or 50 grays…

Couldn't agree more.

I think people label others partly for the purpose of having some form of organization for their brain. Rather than just letting people, "be," they feel they must slot them somewhere.

It's human nature. But that's just an observation.

I prefer not to judge or slot whenever possible. Admittedly, there are times I must work on this also. But, I'm always striving to be better.

Thank you for taking the time to engage @bigsilver , always appreciate that!

I must admit, I realise this 'slotting' is partly wired within the human brain as a survival instinct...from back in the days when people had to hunt to survive. 😉
And I'm not superior to that first trigger in my brain myself for that matter. But I always try to be aware of it, and to not let fear control my mind. And I must say I had the best of times and lessons because of it already.

It's definitely true what you say though, it can be a 'work' sometimes to consciously go against your 'gut'.
Thank you once more for sharing your thoughts!

I like what you comment here @bigsilver .
I share your opinion on how people have a hard time to not feel the need to categorize the world;
and in my opinion, often lack the will to fight this urge.

I posted about this a couple of weeks ago actually 🙂 (and we don't seem to be the only ones feeling this way) : https://steemit.com/philosophy/@lauraorigin/box-mentality-how-we-can-only-accept-the-unknown-as-long-we-can-define-it

But indeed, I can only try my best to not give in to every stereotype or ungrounded judgment wired in my system myself as well, because as they say :
We judge people who judge people. Because judging people is wrong. 😉

All the best!
