Japanese school backpack for elementary school children ランドセルを買ってもらいました

My daughter is going to enter elementary school next year.

Yesterday, her grandparents bought her a school backpack.

In Japan, school backpack is called "Randoseru".

"Randoseru" is a traditional backpack used by Japanese elementary school children to carry study materials to school.

Since enrollment is April next year, I thought that it was too early to buy it. However, recently it seems that it is standard to have it buy in August. Because children meet grandparents during summer vacation and have them buy it.

When I was a child,"Randoseru" was only black or red, but now the situation is different. There are various colors such as pink, blue and purple. There are lots of things such as designs that were decorated with princess style as well. As Japan's declining birthrate is progressing, the manufacturer considered the strategy. Grandparents use the money for their grandchildren.

My daughter chose a pink one.

Some of my colleagues have bought his child's "Randoseru".That he bought is of a popular brand, ordered in April of this year, it will arrive in March next year. It seems that it was out of stock if it was late to order a little more and it could not buy it.
The child will be delighted, but in such a situation it will be amazed.

In addition, the origin of "Randoseru" is said to be the Dutch "ransel" meaning the bag carrying.

うちの娘は来年から小学生です。昨日、じいじとばあばにランドセルを買ってもらいました。

まだ8月なのに買うには早すぎると思っていたら、最近はお盆休みに買ってもらうのが定番なのだそうです。

私が子どもの頃は黒か赤のものしかありませんでしたが、今は違います。

ピンクやブルー、紫など様々な色があります。デザインもプリンセスを意識したデコレーションがされたものなど沢山あり、昔では考えられないような状況です。少子化の中で、じじばばの財布からお金を引き出す戦略でしょうか。

娘はピンクのものを選びました。

同僚でも子どものランドセルを買った人がいるのですが、その人が買ったのは人気ブランドのもので、今年の4月に注文して、届くのが来年3月だそうです。もう少し遅かったら品切れで買えなかった、とのこと。

子どもは喜んでいますが、親としてはちょっと呆れてしまう様な状況です。

ちなみに、ランドセルの語源は、背負いカバンを意味するオランダ語「ransel（ランセル）」だそうです。
