'Bangabandhu Satellite-1' will be the first satellite of the country to be launched on May 4. BTRC Chairman Dr. Shahjahan Mahmud informed the daily Ittefaq on Wednesday.
Through this, Bangladesh will emerge as the 57th country in the world with its own satellites. Besides, the establishment of this satellite will reduce the dependence of Bangladesh on other countries, as well as the country's internal telecommunications system will be radically changed. France's Thales Alenia Space has created Bangabandhu Satellite, one of the world's most renowned satellite manufacturers. To create this, on November 11, 2015, the company signed the agreement with BTRC. The total expenditure on implementation of this project has been fixed at Tk 2,990 crore The expenditure has been incurred by the government's own funding of Taka 544 crore and the remaining Tk 1,358 crore through bidder's financing.
