This morning I posted some shots of my daughter and mentioned that one was a favourite. I had a few moments before she went to bed so that I could get onto the desktop and throw it through Lightroom to see what I could make of it.
What I like is the balance of it and that it shows her in motion. As she steps with her right foot, it throws her body naturally to the left but because she is holding the balloon in her right hand, the angle is weighted back to the centre. She is at the top of a small rise which means that the trees in the background create a softer set and the hard line of the path makes a firm focus plane. This is how I saw it anyway.
I am not a great photo editor but editing changes the potential use case for a single image.
1.
This one is obviously desaturated leaving only the reds/pinks of her outfit. This single colour picking is useful sometimes but is a little passe these days. It might make a nice birthday card though :)
2.
This one is more subdued in tone than the original (last photo) and I too the yellows down to cool it off a bit and give a slightly more sombre feel. I think I should have toned the colours down even more.
3.
This one I wanted to enhance the highlights around her and have a walking into a bright future kind of feel to it. In these three images, I darkened the edges to centralise the focus and bring the attention to her rather than spread across the entire image.

And here is the original, the edge of my wife's hand in the top right corner included :)
For anyone who likes photography, playing around with the editing can give insight into how shots can be put together as it is possible to manipulate and see what types of changes will evoke different responses from the viewer. This helps when framing shots or thinking about what positions to get into when actually taking the shots also. Plus, it is a very good way to review the results of shots to see what could be improved for next time. I recommend finding even a basic editing program to play around with. At least, something with more options than the average phone software.
Now, since I feel like my head is going to explode, Goodnight. Perhaps... I never really know.

I like the first one the best. Nice work

All these photos of your daughter are pretty good, excellent I should say and I will, but I like the third most.
Oh the endless possibilities what one can do when editing photos. Let me count the times I've been pondering between two, three of four options which is the best. Oh the lost hours!
Good night!

Except... Now that I think about this and your previous post, my answer is 10 000 hours. That's when one can call one self an expert. So not lost but gained.
I'm an excellent ponderer between slightly different photos.
I'm excellent at spending time with my cats.
And I'm extremely excellently excellent at taking things way off-topic.

I prefer the second photo, the color gives more emphasis to your daughter and softer background on that way the image stands out. It looks like you're not only an articulate writer but maybe photography has a future in you.(",)

No future in photography for me, just a hobby.

I think the first time I commented on one of your posts were some black and white photos, @tarazkp. They seemed so full of feelings to me, as if the paper was talking. Don't be modest: you are a good photographer, you have the eye and sensitivity to capture the details. Besides, if you have these two beautiful models at home, you will surely see an image worthy of catching at every moment. It must be your artistic personality that always flows! Besides: you explain things very well, which makes you a good teacher. Nice Sunday.

I have asked my wife to model more for me but she is unwilling so far.

Though that is definitely not my forte, it is amazing what can be done to tweak an original photo. Yes the enhanced highlights did wonders to the photo. Thanks for sharing @tarazkp

Hi Taraz. There is quite a bit of artistic skills required and I am sure hours of patience and practice.

I feel the first edit did a great job in bringing out not just the colors, but her mood to the fore

This is such a cool post! :D (should I also add 'sir, please upvote and follow, or did you already hear that in your head?)
No, but really, it's really impressive to see the original after looking at the edited versions which are wow. Especially the first one - which particularly speaks to me.
As for being a great editor...well, I dunno, you seem pretty talented to me ;)

It is automatic.
I think this is an added benefit of editing as each person can find their own taste. I always recommend keeping the original though as tastes change. I wish i had some originals of my old photos as I would love to re-edit some.
