Welease what-a-wick

I wonder who gets the reference in the title.

I mentioned a few weeks back that I was buying a secondhand macro lens from a friend of mine but, I haven't had a chance to play with it until an hour ago when I took these of a candle wick. The lens is an Olympus 60mm 2.8 for a micro four thirds camera (I have an Olympus EM-1). These are unedited other than pretty heavy crops to 16:9, as I wanted to see what was going on.

I have never had a dedicated macro lens so I am looking forward to playing more with it and then getting a flash involved with some insects or something. I don't know really yet but, that is the fun of a new lens :) What does interest me though is seeing if I can take some decent shots inside the house without having to explore too far afield as at the moment, I don't have a lot of time but I do want some more photos for my collection. Macros can tell some very interesting stories as they add details most never see and textures and layers to what is so familiar.

My daughter is awake from her nap now and eating and I am thinking of taking her to an indoor playground as a surprise (and because she had a longer than usual nap and needs to burn energy) instead of going for our usual coffee trip. We might do that tomorrow anyway still of course as both of us enjoy the company.

See you in the evening,

Taraz

Tripod or macro lens, that is the question for me at the moment.

I have a crappy tripod but it does the job with a delayed timer.

I've actually come to the conclusion that a tripod doesn't have to be too fancy to do the job.

Yeah it doesn't and it also depends on what it has to hold. I use mine very rarely.

Those are pretty cool for flame shots!

I would like to get an edit on them to clean up a bit but not bad stright out of camera

They are beautiful and quite finished the way they are. That is to my eyes, of course, but certainly to many others as well. Of course, editing will bring you alternative results and you might like them even more. I edit 99.something % of the photos I show anywhere.

But still...

“The picture is good or not from the moment it was caught in the camera.” – Henri Cartier-Bresson

I am not a great photographer so editing is a must however, I very rarely have access to my desktop and my laptop doesn't handle lightroom well so I generally just let it ride now as is with a crop.

Sure, the quote does not mean "Do not edit", but rather... "The part of the job that defines the potential of the photo was already done." And it's a great result :)

It was very nice to see what you found around you.

I know zero about cameras or lenses but I do know Life of Brian!

We don't have a Roderick....

Nice shot here. Actually i am still thinking about the title of this post though

It is perhaps before your time ;)

This is the only time I can remember W's in place of R's

Feels like a long-shot.

Left us in suspense with the title, huh? I actually had no idea what the photo was either when I clicked.
