Say hello to my little friend... it's a House Gecko.

Eventhough I am a born cruzan...meaning I was born in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, this was my first time seeing a gecko.

Picture was taken on May 21, 2017. The gecko was in our living room. I took the picture and then Sammy coached it gently outdoors.

I went to GOOGLE today to gather some information on the Virgin Islands geckos and I read they came aboard sailing ships in the 17th century.

What?

That does not make sense.

The HOUSE GECKO (Hemidactylus) or locally nicknamed the WOODSLAVE has been here since the 17th century and I was over 51 years old before I saw one!!!

Maybe, when I was growing up we called them Salamanders?

When I reseached the Salamander's images...they look so different.

Maybe...they are masters of camouflaging.

Hmmm...

Other facts...

They are over 90 species in the gecko family and counting...every few years another species is found.

The only native gecko to the Virgin Islands is the Dwarf Gecko from St. John.
