"Winter" in Israel - Sunny Walk in "The Garden of Life"

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

Yesterday sucked. The weather was stormy, and I had a crap day. It happens. But today the trusty Israeli sun came out, bringing out the colors of the freshly-washed greens under a blue sky. So @mrlightning decided it would do me good to get out of the house a bit and get my shoes muddy.

The weather was perfect for photography, so we decided to head for the fields on the outskirts of our town, in a small settlement named "Gan Haim" which translates as "Garden of Life".

Click the images to see them in full size. No filters, no editing, I am too lazy for that.

On our way to the fields and groves, we discovered a horse farm, teaching kids to ride. I love horses, and while I only did a few riding lessons, I miss it insanely. So we took a bunch of pictures! And a video!

The horses have their names and information, as well as random facts about horses on the doors of their pens.

And then there was the most adorable and filthy white pony bouncing around I just had to capture on camera.

SO CUTE!!

Horselfie!!!!

After I stopped being overly-excited with the existence of equines, we continued toward the fields and groves where we found:

Beautiful views (that's @mrlightning there with the camera):

Fresh oranges:

Juicy and delicious mandarins:

Lots of olive trees:

... And a good workout!

My fitness band is pleased, and my hands still smell like citrus. Yes, today was better than yesterday.

All photos taken with my trusty LG v10. If you're looking for quality DSLR photos, head over to my husband's post from the same walk.

So that's what an olive tree looks like. I thought they grew in jars!

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

LOL
No, they grow literally EVERYWHERE in Israel. And I am allergic to their flowers. I am Israeli who hates olives and olive trees. It's like an American who is allergic to fried things.

That is one skinny American...

If I was an American I would probably be really skinny. Or dead. I can't digest most American foods. Whatever is in them? My stomach does not approve. Managed to stomach some organic stuff and eat at a place called Panera and keep it down.

People get so hungry over on this side of the world. We have a saying. "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse." Of course, that would be inappropriate to say here. Those are nice horses.

We have that saying too, but horsemeat isn't Kosher which makes it even funnier. I don't think you CAN get horsemeat in Israel. But I have a friend whose buddies got so high one night they killed, cooked and ate a porcupine. Israelis are weird.

I know a guy who thought he smelled weed growing in the bushes. He was high and felt like being adventurous so he went into the trees to investigate for us. The skunks didn't hesitate. They knew what to do. Friend came out doused in his new cologne. We had to drive slow, walking speed, all the way back to the city. Nobody wanted him to be inside the car. Thanks for somehow triggering that memory. Was a long time ago.

LOL
Sounds like a story waiting to become a post!

Seems like that sun was just what you needed after that crappy day, and if I remember correctly, crappy feeling you felt for awhile :).

Great photo story! The video and picture of the dirty white pony were fantastic. You managed to capture the charm and allure of the idyllic countryside.

Beautiful horses! I don't like riding on horses. because the first time I did, I fell. ( When I was really young tho )
the photo of the Orange tree reminds me the tree I've in my garden, like seriously!

Kudos to @mrlightning!

As for myself, I had to walk in the rain yesterday. And my umbrella broke. And I hate cold and winter and rain and grey clouds.

Yeah, tomorrow sucked.

By the time I realized how balmy today was, relatively speaking, the sun was still out, but it didn't heat any longer.

But, there's tomorrow! And tomorrow should be even warmer.

I hate rain, and I love when it's sunny, but even so, I'm getting worried.

Anyway, I love citrus and its smells, and it looks like you two had a lot of fun. Didn't actually know there's a horse-farm in Gan Chaim, hm. Never rode a horse, maybe I'll go there at some point and change that.

To better, balmy days :)

Yeah, tomorrow sucked.

Your time machine acting up again?

No, of course not. Just a slip of the tongue.

*Hides from the time-cops.*

The cloud is almost similar to my picture collection.
I love this one, it's beautiful

I like the white horse and your video is amazing @techslut

👍

Looks beautiful! Id love to visit Israel ^.^ Upvoted and resteemed :)

Thanks! Come on over, if you can take the heat. :)

haha here today it was 42 degrees C I basically live in a desert... XD

Yup, you can handle Israel. Come on over!

hah one day! :D

Yeah. I don't really relish Summer anywhere except San Franciso (where it is cool all the time this time of the year). Israel is no exception. I do like Winters in Israel because they are such a contrast to the amazing heat of the stifiling dry or humid rainless Summers

I've been told San Francisco has perfect weather. I would like to check that.

I don't think Frisco has perfect weather. The Summer is foggy all the time in the mornings and evenings, and depending on where you are the high temps are anywhere from 13 to 20 in the city. This is due to the effects of the varied topography and closeness to the Pacific Ocean. Spring is cool, less fogy but cool. Winter is cold with frequent rainstorms similar to what we saw yesterday in Israel but generally a bit less strong than. They have a "Summer" in early October where the mercury there can sore to 35 degrees or more for about two weeks. I enjoy the weather there but it often feels like you are waling out in a wet blanket all the time.

I prefer cold and moist over 40 C temperatures in the summer. Which basically lasts most of the year.

Agreed.

Hey, nice write, it is interesting. I am following you, can you follow me @xtophercruzeu thanks

Looks like a lovely trip! And considering the weather we had here you are lucky to have this sun and blue skies! I am really happy your day was better than yesterday, I was sad of the happenings then...
I love oranges! But the קלמנטינות are something you either live or hate and I am not a lover of them :)
איפה זה בארץ אילנה? מוזר לי שלעולם לא שמעתי על המקום :) זה צפוני?

גן חיים זה מושב מצפון לכפר סבא
Yeah, I needed a day to reset. And then there was drama again in the evening. Ugh.

I am not a fan of citrus fruit as I can only digest small quantities. I had 2 mandarins on our walk. If I ate more, I would get a nasty heartburn. But admit it - nothing compares to the smell of citrus trees after the rain. :)

Yeah - the smell of everything after the rain is better! I was in an school when I was young near the אנג'ל bakery and after the rain the smell from there was mind blowing! i suspect they put something in the ovens in order to expand such a great smell that will make people consume more bread or run to their factory shop and buy everything :)

Living next to a bakery is a sure way to get fat. :)

Love the Israeli "winter".
@techslut, As someone who left Israel to live in a place where winter is actually winter i can tell you that this is one of the things i miss the most in this country. Happy to see that the sun is still outside, enjoy it as much as you can :)

Hey, you get snow! I am sweating next to an open window!

Weather in Nigeria is dry mostly. With people having cracked lips and heels. It's really rough.

Shia butter?

wow,nice photos.
great clicks👌👌

Have a nice day.

That looks very nice and I love it too when my fitness tracked tells me I meet the daily goals haha :)

It's what it's for! :D

I was inside all day here in Jerusalem but I did manage to see the son peeking out after a night of heavy rains, winds, thunder and lighting. I love Winter in Israel and I also found the pony to every "cute" as well.

I love horses too! I rode forever and hope to get back into it again some day. I am so jealous, sitting here in a snowstorm, looking at your lovely olives and oranges just growing outside! Oh, I'd love to pick an orange or olive off a tree in my yard! Have fun and enjoy your sun!

Hey, I am just as jealous. Do you know how much I miss snow? Although nothing compares to the smell of an orange grove after the rain and when it gets sunny. And those mandarins were so delicious! Juicy and warm right off the tree.

Would like to visit Israel

Hmmm that first picture reminded me of something I hadn't seen in a while hahaha

Bliss.png

LOL Yeah, I can see the resemblance! :)

Looks awesome, can't wait to go back to Israel in March,

March is nice! Warm and floral. Bring your antihistamines!

WOW, fantastic pictures, you make me miss Israel, I wish I could go back again soon.

She's still here, and the weather is nice. And drop me a line when you're here. We'll meet and take steemy selfies. :)

Sounds like a plan! Unfortunately I have so many plans for the coming year with anniversaries that it'll be 2019 at the earliest. I'm thinking of training for the Tel-Aviv marathon of 2019

Muy buena experiencia.

Nice

you look happy in your selfie..
lovely photos

I do. It was a good day!

@techslut
It is a land flowing with milk and honey. Anything will grow and flourish in Israel.
Interesting to learn that you are an Israelite. :)

Anything will grow and flourish in Israel.

No, I tried having house-plants and, well, my superpower for killing plantlife trumps Israel's milk and honey nature. :)

yes
