Hey everyone! Recently I came back from my travels in Zhang Jia Jie, a tourist city in China's Hunan Province. Here are some pictures highlighting my adventure into the national park where the movie Avatar was filmed.
These towering cliffs are a trademark feature in Avatar. Notice the similarities in plant growth at the peaks, as well as the jutting natures of the rocks, seemingly shooting into the sky.
In the movie, James Cameron is able to add unrealistic weathering effects and disproportionate plant growth to fantasize his world, but the inspiration for this setting can still be seen.
This aerial shot provides a better look at what Cameron was aiming for in his film. He envisioned a peaceful utopia teeming with green life, and this park served as the base for his animations team to build around.
While floating masses of land don't exist due to the effects of gravity, Cameron was able to create his paradise using the same linear concepts that Zhang Jia Jie's park advertises.
Some more pictures of paradise.
