With most of our night adventures we don't usually have a set plan. Some ruff ideas or possible locations then we meet up and go from there. On this night we decided that it has been way too long since we had done anything with heights.
With very little wind we thought it would be a good night to climb an old radio tower that is no longer in use. The wind is a huge factor when climbing it, not only for safety reasons. But also for the shots. The tower slightly sways in the wind, making any kind of a long exposure photo very difficult. Below are a couple of photo's as we climbed the structure and you can see the slight blur in the second one. That was cause by the wind and had me a little concerned for how the shooting would go.
Even the slight wind was wreaking havoc with our long exposure shots. I took several with a high iso and faster shutter speed, but was not happy with them at all! So we stuck it out and finally after about 20 minutes of being perched on the tower. The wind completely died off and I was able to get this great skyline shot of downtown Hamilton, Ont.
Happy with what we got, we climbed back down and made our way to the downtown core. We scanned the area and decided to do the rooftop of some abandoned buildings that offer a nearly 360 degree view of downtown. The first shot is mt favorite from the night. It is of the Pigott building, the first skyscraper built in the city (1921) with a magnificent purple/magenta color in the sky behind it. Then the rest of the views that we got to take in.
