Have you ever witnessed an active volcano? Words that come to mind are lava, danger, red, hot, sulfur, rock, and boil. While in Nicaragua on vacation I saw 3 volcano's, however Nicaragua has 19 active volcano's within the whole country. I was fortunate to be able to be at the top of one of the active volcano's. They call it " the mouth of hell." Back in the 1500's this volcano was used to sacrifice animals, people, and offerings. The Spaniards believed that it was the entrance to hell due to how hot it was, the lava it stored, and how deep it was. A permanent cross was placed at the top of the hill were sacrifices were performed to keep demons out. I have captured some great photos of this for you to see!

If you listen closely you can hear the volcano bubbling deep down and the smell of sulfur is in the air. The last eruption was in 2016 where the lava bubbled to the top of its peak. The park ranger only provides a 10-15 minute viewing to keep us safe in case the volcano starts to erupt.

Being able to see this volcano so closely was an amazing experience. If you can make it to Nicaragua, I would recommend going to see it!
