Good morning friends βοΈ
TGIF!!!! πππππ
On our way back from Bali in May of last year, Angel and I opted to have 25-hour layover in Taiwan instead of having a 5-hour layover so we can have a day to explore. We arrived in Taipei at 9 pm and the first thing on our agenda was to get to the Airbnb and get some rest. We were greeted by our host Betty, her husband, and their 3 beautiful children. This was probably one of the cutest Airbnb's I have ever stayed at. It was decorated beautifully and included a kitchenette AND laundry room!
After a great nights rest, Angel and I walked to a nearby cafe for some breakfast. It was such a cool experience to eat at a local place where no one spoke English haha. I ended up having a coffee and bagel with tuna and Angel had a coffee and waffle ham and cheese sandwich.
Once our bellies were full we got an Uber and headed out to the city. Our first stop was Taipei 101, a landmark supertall skyscraper in Xinyi District, Taipei, Taiwan. The building was officially classified as the world's tallest in 2004, and remained such until the completion of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai in 2010. It also used to have the fastest elevator in the world, traveling at 60.6 km/h and transporting passengers from the 5th to 89th floor in 37 seconds. That was until the title for the fastest elevator was given to the Shanghai Tower in Shanghai, China. When arriving, we bought our tickets and took the elevator up to the 91st floor. Once at the top we walked around the observatory deck which provides an unobstructed view of the city in all directions. The observatory deck also houses a museum where visitors can learn about the design process and construction of Taipei 101 and other similar large-scale construction projects around the world, including a free audio tour in eleven languages, as well as high-powered binoculars, refreshments, and professional photography service.
Our last stop before heading to the airport was an outdoor outlet mall that had tons of stores and a GIGANTIC food court. After a little bit of shopping, we had some more local food and then made our way back to the Airbnb to get out stuff and say goodbye to our gracious host.
Overall I really enjoyed my layover in Taiwan. Great food. Great people. Great scenery.
First meal in Tapei π Bagel with tuna and veggies with an iced coffee
Angel and I in front of Taipei 101. Not my favorite picture of us, but its the only one we took in front of the building π
Colorful wall right outside of Taipei 101 I just HAD to do a headstand in front of it. I couldn't resist
I like headstands if you couldn't tell π

Obligatory yoga pose π§ββοΈ
Striking a pose with a damper baby, Taiwan's mascot. Named after the tuned mass damper or harmonic absorber, which is a device mounted in structures to reduce the amplitude of mechanical vibrations.
