Contrary to popular belief, the Cape of Good Hope is the most south westerly point of Africa not the most southerly. It was discovered by Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias on March 12, 1488 in the hope of finding a trade route to India. It is home to a large variety of wildlife, including 200 different species of birds, chacma baboons (see my previous picture) and humpback whales. Also notable were the constant, powerful waves in the beautiful blue ocean, which are a strong contributor to the Cape often being called 'The Graveyard of Ships'.

Photographed on iPhone X.
