This was taken at the start of the Samaria Gorge walk - 16kms through the longest gorge in Europe.
It is a beautiful place and filled with history.
This is where the freedom fighters hid from the Ottoman Turks and the Germans and launched their raids.
It was turned into a national reserve in the 60s to preserve the endemic goat, the Kri-kri.
With the temperature soaring up to 42 degrees Celsius, it was nice to spend the day down in the cool of the gorge.
It took me about 7 hours to walk it with my guide, who pointed out landmarks and told me about the history along the way.
an amazing hiking for sure!
