I think You could have found a more interesting thing to photograph.
The most important question You need to ask before taking a photo, is "what is the subject"? in this photo, what was your subject?
The second thing to do, is to take the subject and fill the frame with it.
there are exceptions and whole lot of rules to learn and break, but these are the most essential and basic rules of composition.
