The passionflower

in photography •  7 years ago

Passionflowers are part of climbing plants with spectacular flowers, but their abundance is only guaranteed in regions with mild climate.

They derive their name from the fact that the Jesuit missionaries of South America used the flower of this vine to represent Christ's Passion among the natives: his pistil, the drawings of his corolla and various floral pieces would resemble a Crown of thorns, hammer and nails of the Crucifixion.

This passiflora climbs on an arcade that separates my garden in two.
