The clash between church and private property solved by brazilian gambiarra (tricky improvised hack)

One day I was walking in the traditional Bixiga neighbourhood in São Paulo city, Brazil, seeing the border of Nossa Senhora da Achiropita and its close loft, when I noticed this litlle building incident.

Who started it wrong? Maybe the loft was there and some miscalculation in the church's project or a fail in the ground measurement forced the building owner neighbour to authorize this hole in the wall, making everything fit and ensure the religious harmony in the street.

Or would the reverse happened? The loft builder, whatever being catholic or protestant, remained still even when saw that the designed wall would shock with that church's pointed corner ornament. Anyway, they found the solution in the gambiarra way also translated as "doing a MacGyver".

Yes, it is an institution here, some blame it for our underdevelopment while others celebrate it as a Brazilian contribution to the world of hack, innovation and creativity :-)

The Bixiga neighbourhood is an original mix where people with african former slaves and italian immigrants ancestry leaves. Tourists can find famous cantinas, 100 years old italian bread bakeries and a samba school gymnasium all aside by a few steps distance there.

The gambiarra technology also inspired the Gambiologia (Gambiology), a new art and science kludding combined with electronic-digital techniques proposed by artists a few years ago.
