What is a Seminary?

For those of you that do not know, a seminary is a college or university that prepares people to become priests, rabbis, or ministers. St. Mary's Seminary is part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston–Houston and therefore facilitates the ordination and spiritual growth of Catholic Priests. Students are traditionally called seminarians.

A little history

St. Mary’s Seminary, dedicated to the honor of the Mother of Jesus, dates its origins from the charter establishing the University of St. Mary in the City of Galveston on August 23, 1856. The institution was transferred in 1901 to La Porte, and by charter amendments duly made and filed, the name was changed to St. Mary’s Seminary. With the completion of new buildings, the seminary was relocated at its present site in Houston on October 4, 1954.

To be quite honest, I had no idea what this place was at the time. I didn't figure it out until I was an adult. I just knew that there were fun things to do here like tennis, swimming pool, hiking trails, a basketball court and the list goes on.

For someone who despises churches so much, it's a wonder that I am so captivated by the architecture of all places of spiritual and religious gathering. I do a great job maneuvering through the religious facets of society, so expect to also see mosques, Buddhist & Hindu temples, Orthodox, Mormon Temples, and many more. I will also give you a tour of Greater Church of Lucifer in my hometown. @xtrodinarypilot does not discriminate, but do know that the exterior building has no aesthetic design.

I managed to make it through this photo shoot without catching on fire. It did get hot but that was thanks to the Texas heat and humidity. Part 2 will consist of where the priests hang out when they aren't priesting. I just made that word up because it sounded appropriate. Remember priests and seminarians are humans too and do more than just spiritual and religous studies. I will take you behind the scenes where they play pool, darts, and videos games. Remember when you see the handle, DemonSlayer777 or SoulSaver123 it could very well be a priest on the kill-streak.
