The Ice Forest: A Frozen Fantasy World (Photo Shoot and Behind the Scenes)

It´s so cold when North Winds blow
bringing hail and pearls of frost
That´s the way that you do chill me to the bone

(Lyrics from my song Flame)

In Spain there is a beautiful world, "Cencellada", for this particular meteorological event. I think the English translation would be "rime". It happens when it's misty and Temperature drops drastically and the water vapor and droplets in the fog freeze quickly. The result looks like if everything has magically turned into ice, a glass-looking forest covered in fragile frost needles and scales (sometimes showing the direction in which the wind blows), and trees turn absolutely white as if made of standing snow... It looks magical and so ethereal.

Gauzy and Fragile like thin ice (from my song Ethereal)

As you know as a fantasy musician and illustrator I also find inspiration and enjoy doing fantasy photo shoots. It was the first day of 2017 and despite being extremely cold @hedac and I wanted to celebrate doing what we love the most, hiking out int he Wilderness. We usually work as a team, he enjoys scenery and landscape photography and I love to dress up in fantasy costumes (as my music and art is inspired by fantasy and fairy tales). So as we drove up the mountains everything started to transform, the mist vanished and pale, white slender beech trees loomed out as we entered into a "Frozen World".

What we found was even more rare and especial, and this is likely one of my favourite photoshoots ever. I hope you feel the magic of the moment too through them. I have never shared them "together" day, so writing this blog post also was for me a lovely way to revisit a cherished memory.

-It is very cold. -@hedac said... Are you sure you want to go for it? (He knows I would reply "Of course")

It was bitter cold, -10 ºC and wind chill factor made it felt much lower. I am a person that takes baths in the river in late Winter so I can endure cold weather rather well but as I was undressing I felt it "cutting my skin". So there I was putting on a corset not wanting to miss the chance. I made the cloak and skirt myself. The furry collar is faux. I am against the use of fur. I had a white thin fabric I often use for my stage performances. I had been gifted a wonderful mask, crafted by Vincent Cantillon, and happened to have a white dress in the trunk of the car (as somehow we were expecting to find a place with snow). Lucky!

Wind lifted the veils in odd ghostly shapes. The word is haunting.

We took plenty of photos and lost track of time until there came a moment I felt my fingertips had hardened (literally) and went completely numb. I stopped feeling my hands entirely and I felt a slight trigger of alarm, so that was the moment to halt and go back to the car.

-"I can't fight the keys of the car" -Hector said as he started to look around and in his pockets.
I panicked a little and started to shiver. I had no coat or gloves. It took a little time until he did hahah and those were looooong minutes for me.

Below: A mosaic of "behind the scenes" and highlights all taken with my phone including me and my poor fingers! Happy and cozy after I had warmed up with the car´s heating and hot tea (A thermos flask is a must for this kind of adventures). I hope you find the photos worth. My hands did hurt quite a while but I love to have been able to be part of that fairy-tale moment.

After we were comforted we ventured up again to film some footage, and a blizzard compelled us to drive back home, but not before we could make some very dramatic videos for our music projects.

All pictures are taken with my phone except the ones I'm appearing in, that were taken in collaboration with @hedac and edited by myself. He took amazing shots that day as well that I hope he shares his too. Next one is also from my phone (not quite as spectacular as the ones he did but you can make an idea).

Since, we have been waiting for the weather to replicate this elusive meteorological event (rare in my region), to find again a door open into this magical Ice Frozen Woods. We visit the location in Navarre, Spain always shifting along with the seasons.

You look always like a true-life angel. I believe Spirit puts angels on the earth to inspire the rest of us, I really do. It's impossible that you wouldn't be among them. Just impossible. You're of the Divine. Much love and adoration as always to you for your (and @hedac 's)beautiful creations and for your respect for Mother Nature. You inspire me constantly. ♥ Thank you, Priscilla. ♥

Thank you, you are so sweet. Believe me I have moments where I stumble and fall, and I stand up again, just like everyone else. But if there is one single thing that makes me proud of myself is that I've pursued this dream so long, and in the way I've felt more honest, and I still believe in it. Thanks for the lovely comment, for an artist to know you reach others hearts is the best compliment. I do not seek much more really, maybe I lack the ambitions for what people considers success yet I feel successful in my own and humble obscure cryptic magical way :) hahaha Because I'm still here standing, dreaming on

Further proof – you're of the faerie realms – made of magic star particles, bits of crystal and gold dust. <3

Aww you are sweet. I really love fantasy, and storytelling with music and art. And thanks inmensely for the compliment. As Sagan said we are ALL made of star stuff. ❤️

The atmosphere for these pictures are perfect.

Thank you so much. I love composing fantasy music and doing fantasy illustrations. My love for fantasy runs deep, I read it and I try to recreate it too. We always take these experiences too to make photography and filming scenes for the music videos, but the truth is that I love Nature, hiking and being inspired by it as well.

Wonderful post! Looking out for more...

Thank you so much. I will keep on sharing pics, music and art, but all is related to fantasy and nature ❤️🌱

My pleasure entirely. Why the "but"? I'm all for fantasy. Just check my blog whenever you have a moment.

I was just saying that it´s a multidisciplinary account :) but even if they are different fields (music/art/photography) they are all linked through a "fantasy" component.

Totally worth the cold! I would’ve gone for it too!!! 💕

If you happen to ever stop close (you never know when paths cross) I'll kidnap you along :)

wow this is beuatiful and the description of the glass forest thats enough to inspire music alone.
I havent seen snow, and this is insight into another amazing world.
Your costume was beffiting.
It looks like it should have been in lord of the rings this scene.
Have you had a song inspired from this day?

Thank you the mask was a gift, the rest by myself. Many of my song have reference to ice and snow like ethereal or flame (quoted). But they are prior to the moment. I made a little tiny wintry frost excerpt but it lasts one minute. It is called winter night.

I grew in a tropical island, no snow, but now I am able to enjoy it every winter, first snow is something special, even if you have seen it before.

-10 ºC and wind chill factor made it felt much lower. I am a person that takes baths , much cold

I would love to try it but I live in a place where there is no winter...

Beautiful photography! That would have been a great setting to do a version of the song "Let it Go" from the movie "Frozen".
The ice rime is just spectacular! I don't think I could have stayed out in that cold as long as you did, I don't have much cold tolerance.

The ice rime was magical. I actually love Disney musicals but I do not why Frozen did not ring the strings on my heart. Maybe I expected a closer adaptation of The Snow Queen or because I miss traditional animation. Still the song is catchy and beautifully sung. Once One girl asked me if I were from Frozen lol but I was wearing green, do not know what to make of it ;)

Wow. Great photos. The white trees look awesome...

Thank you, it is difficult to convey the feeling through the pictures, it was ghostly. ❤️

Thank you, the mask was a gift from the artisn (link is in the article) and most of the rest I did myself. I love to plot fantasy looks. The pictures are mostly an extension of my music and we always film for videos too.

you are so courageous to face this cold, and you deserve my admiration ! magic shots and inspiring ! thank you !

you are so sweet, thanks. I confess I love to make fantasy photography because I find it an extension of my work as a musician. It´s curious I grew up in a place where Carnival is massive yet I never dressed up for a Carnival or a Halloween. And now as a grown up I roam the woods as a minstrel in medieval gowns hahah :) But the truth is that I find PEACE in Nature, it embraces me and it inspires me. You're very kind.

Love these pictures! Looks so pretty! Upvoted :)

Thank you, it was very very cold. I love fantasy as it´s the main inspiration for my work in general, and I love nature, so for me this photo shoots are a way to combine two passions.

Funny enough, Today I was thinking about an image that captured the word "breathtaking", so I could use it to explain the meaning of it. These definitely qualify for that!

Thank you, I loved the "rime", it's very unusual and rare where I live, we have snow sometimes but the forest covered in rime was spooky and ghostly :) Thanks

beautiful photo session @yidneth I really like how you combine art with nature, putting photography, writing and music all together with nature! True talent!

your photos are fantastic, you really guided me to a magical world, magic accompanied by nature fills us with joy and an unparalleled imagination, you really have to be a special being, an angel to be able to show and reflect so much beauty your ideas and your work is truly a reflection of your beauty

This is such an amazingly magical photoshoot! Thank you for sharing this bit of fariytale fabulousness!

Thank you, most of my work is music and traditional illustration but both are "fantasy" and thus I grew a liking for fantasy photography as well and dressing up. I never need excuses to go out into the Wilderness :) but it's fun :) Thank you.

You are absolutely incredible...so committed to your art!!! The fact that you had a white dress in the trunk of your car made me laugh. You are one prepared person!

The nature photos are stunning, the last one especially. I have never been in weather like that and can only imagine how magical it is. So glad your fingers survived.

Oh thanks, it was eerie.
My main art is music and traditional drawing but I like to plot photo shoots we love to hike and it is also a good excuse to have promotional material and film.scenes for our videoclips. We were expecting snow so I had it ready. Now I am plotting a scene for a video and all is ready in the car. When you hike 20 km in a corset to reach a mountain lake lol you are committed I guess haha. My self photography has been also a journey of acceptance.

You are so creatively well-rounded. Being ready when the perfect moment / scene presents itself is the best...then the magic can happen spontaneously...being ready to be spontaneous...makes perfect sense, right? ;) Doing anything in a corset for any amount of time equals commitment in my book.

What do you mean by self photography? Do you mean pictures of you or the pictures that you take yourself?

Sometimes I take them myself and sometimes in collaboration with my partner @hedac who is always there to click. He makes beautiful landscape photography. But I plot my ideas and garments and edit the pictures. We are very much a team. Truth is until my mid 20s I hid myself from cameras, but then I found I also enjoy storytelling and dressing. I guess the desperate romantic my spirit is. So I overcame my fear I guess lol. Haha up the Pyrenees in a corset lol, it happens.

Up in the Pyrenees in a Corset...sounds like it could be an interesting song or short story. :D

I too am very camera shy. I find having pictures taken of me incredibly uncomfortable. I have shared selfies on Whaleshares a couple of times which is so out of character for me. Baby steps I guess. Maybe someday I will be wearing a corset in the Pyrenees...I welcome that kind of freedom. I just have to claim it, it seems.

and I forgot thanks for sharing the colorchallenge rules, I participated on Monday Red, hope I did fine :) It´s fun! :)

You're welcome. It is a fun way to approach a post.

@yidneth this post was presented at the morning session of Pimp Your Post Thursday on the Steemit Ramble Discord. It was one of five choosen for the video report on the session. Just stopping back to let you know that you can see your name in lights right here. (Just kidding about the lights :)

Yayyy, thanks for the feature and the encouragement :)

Its a magical moment for me to see this kind of enviroment. I really like your shots

Thanks for the compliment 🌸
