Sake for Enshrined Deities

At shrines in Japan, sake is offered to the deities who reside therein. At the Meiji Shrine in Tokyo, I took these photos of barrels of sake offered to the passed ancestors.

Long seen as a bridge between the living and the gods, sake has played a significant role in Japanese governance and spirituality. If only they were full....
